                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Angela Vera Morales on June 7, 1994,
    1-2  at the age of 87, brought a great loss to the many friends,
    1-3  relatives, and admirers of this beloved woman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born May 5, 1907, in San Antonio, she married Felix
    1-5  H. Morales on March 12, 1928, and together they shared 60 years of
    1-6  mutual respect and devotion until his passing; Mrs. Morales and her
    1-7  husband entered into many worthy and innovative endeavors together,
    1-8  having established the first Hispanic-owned and operated funeral
    1-9  home in Houston and pioneering Hispanic radio stations KLVL in
   1-10  Pasadena and KFHM in San Antonio; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Morales overcame
   1-12  adversity, poverty, and prejudice to light the way for others; she
   1-13  preached and practiced self-discipline, self-reliance, and
   1-14  perseverance, and was renowned in South Texas for her humanitarian
   1-15  efforts, for her pioneering firsts, and for her tireless work to
   1-16  improve the lives of those less fortunate; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Among the well-deserved accolades given Mrs. Morales
   1-18  for her exceptional achievements were the 1983 Business Woman of
   1-19  the Year award from Minority Enterprise Development, the Most
   1-20  Distinguished Mexican-American Award by Fiestas Patrias, the LULAC
   1-21  Outstanding Service Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award by the
   1-22  YWCA, the 1994 Zaragoza Award for Outstanding Community Dedication,
   1-23  and designation as an honorary citizen of the city of Pasadena in
   1-24  1990; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Shortly before her death, the Felix and Angela
    2-2  Morales Memorial Foundation was founded to help disadvantaged
    2-3  students pursue their dream of a higher education, and the
    2-4  organization remains a fitting tribute to this remarkable woman,
    2-5  who truly made her community and state a better place in which to
    2-6  live through her extraordinary generosity; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Angela Vera Morales was a woman of rare compassion
    2-8  and strength; although she has been greatly missed by all who knew
    2-9  her, her memory surely lives on in the hearts of the many people
   2-10  whose lives she touched during her time on this earth; now,
   2-11  therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-13  Legislature hereby honor the life of Angela Vera Morales and extend
   2-14  sincere sympathy to the many friends and relatives of this esteemed
   2-15  lady; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-17  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-18  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-19  Angela Vera Morales.
