                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the deep sadness
    1-2  that has accompanied the news of the passing of Lee "Levi" Bivins
    1-3  II on October 19, 1994, at the age of 48; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The great-grandson of Panhandle pioneer Lee Bivins,
    1-5  he was born in Amarillo and remained a Panhandle resident
    1-6  throughout much of his adult life; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, In his youth, Mr. Bivins attended St. Stephen's
    1-8  Preparatory School in Austin and was graduated from Washington and
    1-9  Lee University in Virginia, where he majored in political science;
   1-10  he later continued his education by pursuing graduate studies in
   1-11  accounting at The University of Texas; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Involved in ranching and other investments
   1-13  throughout his professional career, Mr. Bivins also was employed
   1-14  for 10 years as an administrative assistant to Congressman Jack
   1-15  Hightower; in addition to his many professional endeavors, he was
   1-16  an active supporter of Washington and Lee University, the National
   1-17  Gallery of the Arts, the Human Rights Campaign Fund, the Whitman
   1-18  Walker Clinic, the AIDS Action Council, and the Don Harrington
   1-19  Discovery Center; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Honored by the Amarillo Jaycees as one of six
   1-21  Outstanding Young Men in 1975, Mr. Bivins was a valued member of
   1-22  his community whose presence and accomplishments greatly enriched
   1-23  the lives of all who were privileged to know him; though he will be
   1-24  deeply missed, his spirit will long endure in the hearts of the
    2-1  countless people whose lives he touched during his time on this
    2-2  earth; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-4  hereby pay tribute to the life of Lee "Levi" Bivins II and extend
    2-5  deepest sympathy to his mother, Mrs. Lee T. Bivins of Amarillo; to
    2-6  his brothers, our esteemed colleague Senator Teel Bivins, Tom
    2-7  Bivins, and Mark Bivins, all of Amarillo; and to the many other
    2-8  friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-10  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-11  House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in
   2-12  memory of Lee "Levi" Bivins II.
