AN ACT
1-1 relating to the designation of certain highways as the Presidential
1-2 Corridor.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. The portions of United States Highway 290 from
1-5 Interstate Highway 35 to State Highway 21 and State Highway 21 from
1-6 United States Highway 290 to State Highway 6 are designated as the
1-7 Presidential Corridor, in recognition of that corridor's connection
1-8 between the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library in Austin and the George
1-9 Herbert Walker Bush Library in College Station. The designation is
1-10 in addition to any other designation.
1-11 SECTION 2. (a) The Texas Department of Transportation shall
1-12 design and construct appropriate markers to be placed along United
1-13 States Highway 290 and State Highway 21 indicating their
1-14 designation as the Presidential Corridor.
1-15 (b) The markers shall include the highway number and any
1-16 other information the department determines is appropriate.
1-17 (c) Markers shall be erected at each end of the highway and
1-18 at intermediate sites that the department determines are
1-19 appropriate.
1-20 (d) The department is responsible for repair and replacement
1-21 of the markers and for the maintenance of the grounds surrounding
1-22 each marker.
1-23 (e) The department may accept grants and donations from
1-24 individuals and other entities to assist in financing the
2-1 construction and maintenance of the markers.
2-2 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
2-3 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-4 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-5 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-6 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-7 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-8 passage, and it is so enacted.
