    1-6                         A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-7                                AN ACT
    1-8  relating to workers' compensation benefits for professional
    1-9  athletes employed by the International Hockey League.
   1-10        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-11        SECTION 1.  Subsection (c), Section 406.095, Labor Code, is
   1-12  amended to read as follows:
   1-13        (c)  In this section, "professional athlete" means a person
   1-14  employed as a professional athlete by a franchise of:
   1-15              (1)  the National Football League;
   1-16              (2)  the National Basketball Association;
   1-17              (3)  the American League of Professional Baseball
   1-18  Clubs; <or>
   1-19              (4)  the National League of Professional Baseball
   1-20  Clubs; or
   1-21              (5)  the International Hockey League.
   1-22        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-23  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-24  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-25  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-26  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-27  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-28  passage, and it is so enacted.
