                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the imposition of a fee for the services of a court
    1-3  reporter.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 52, Government Code, is
    1-6  amended by adding Section 52.0471 to read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 52.0471.  COURT REPORTER FEE.  (a)  The district clerk
    1-8  in a county with a population of one million or more shall collect
    1-9  at the time a suit or action is filed a reasonable fee set by the
   1-10  commissioners court for the services of a court reporter.
   1-11        (b)  A fee imposed under this section is in addition to any
   1-12  fee imposed under Section 52.047 for furnishing a transcript.
   1-13        SECTION 2.  Section 52.0471, Government Code, as added by
   1-14  this Act, applies only to a suit or action filed on or after the
   1-15  effective date of this Act.
   1-16        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
   1-17        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-18  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-19  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-20  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-21  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
