AN ACT
1-1 relating to assignment pay for police officers in certain
1-2 municipalities.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Subsection (b), Section 143.114, Local Government
1-5 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1-6 (b) In a municipality with a population of 1.2 million or
1-7 more, the municipality's governing body may authorize assignment
1-8 pay for:
1-9 (1) helicopter personnel;
1-10 (2) <,> bomb squad personnel;
1-11 (3) <,> special weapons and tactics personnel;
1-12 (4) <,> motorcycle personnel;
1-13 (5) <, and> dive team personnel; and
1-14 (6) police officers who perform specialized functions
1-15 in their respective departments, including but not limited to
1-16 career patrol officers.
1-17 (c) The assignment pay is in an amount and is payable under
1-18 conditions set by ordinance and is in addition to the regular pay
1-19 received by members of the police department. The head of the
1-20 police department is not eligible for the assignment pay authorized
1-21 by this section.
1-22 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-3 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-4 passage, and it is so enacted.
