                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to the employment of commissioned peace officers by the
    1-2  office of the attorney general.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 402.009, Government Code, is amended to
    1-5  read as follows:
    1-6        The attorney general may employ and commission <as> peace
    1-7  officers <not more than five persons at any one time as
    1-8  investigators> for law enforcement <the limited> purposes <purpose
    1-9  of> and for assisting the attorney general in carrying out the
   1-10  duties of that office <relating to prosecution assistance and crime
   1-11  prevention>.
   1-12        SECTION 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act takes effect on
   1-13  September 1, 1995.
   1-14        SECTION 3.  EMERGENCY.  The importance of this legislation
   1-15  and the crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-16  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-17  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-18  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-19  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-20  passage, and it is so enacted.
