A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1-1 relating to veterans organizations filing with the secretary of
1-2 state.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 4 (c), Chapter 483, Acts of the 73rd
1-5 Legislature, Regular Session, 1993 (Article 9023b, Vernon's Texas
1-6 Civil Statutes) is amended to read as follows:
1-7 (c) The effective date of a registration statement issued
1-8 under this section is the date on which the secretary of state
1-9 issues the certificate. A registration statement is effective for
1-10 one year after its effective date and may be renewed annually by
1-11 filing a renewal registration statement and paying the filing fee
1-12 <A veterans organization that has filed a registration statement
1-13 under Subsection (a) of this section and that continues to make
1-14 solicitations through a solicitor shall file an updated statement
1-15 with the secretary of state on or before January 15 of each year
1-16 during which solicitations will occur>.
1-17 SECTION 2. Section 6 (c), Chapter 483, Acts of the 73rd
1-18 Legislature, Regular Session, 1993 (Article 9023b, Vernon's Texas
1-19 Civil Statutes) is amended to read as follows:
1-20 (c) The effective date of a registration statement issued
1-21 under this section is the date on which the secretary of state
1-22 issues the certificate. A registration statement is effective for

2-1 filing a renewal registration statement and paying the filing fee
2-2 <A solicitor that has filed a registration statement under
2-3 Subsection (a) of this section shall file an updated statement with
2-4 the secretary of state on or before January 15 of each year during
2-5 which the solicitor will solicit on behalf of a veterans
2-6 organization>.
2-7 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
2-8 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
2-9 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-10 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-11 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-12 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
