1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to veterans organizations filing with the secretary of
1-9 state.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Subsection (c), Section 4, Article 9023b, Revised
1-12 Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
1-13 (c) The effective date of a registration statement issued
1-14 under this section is the date on which the secretary of state
1-15 issues the certificate. A registration statement is effective for
1-16 one year after its effective date and may be renewed annually by
1-17 filing a renewal registration statement and paying the filing fee
1-18 <A veterans organization that has filed a registration statement
1-19 under Subsection (a) of this section and that continues to make
1-20 solicitations through a solicitor shall file an updated statement
1-21 with the secretary of state on or before January 15 of each year
1-22 during which solicitations will occur>.
1-23 SECTION 2. Subsection (c), Section 6, Article 9023b, Revised
1-24 Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
1-25 (c) The effective date of a registration statement issued

1-29 filing a renewal registration statement and paying the filing fee
1-30 <A solicitor that has filed a registration statement under
1-31 Subsection (a) of this section shall file an updated statement with
1-32 the secretary of state on or before January 15 of each year during
1-33 which the solicitor will solicit on behalf of a veterans
1-34 organization>.
1-35 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
1-36 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-37 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-38 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-39 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-40 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
