No. 1461 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 13, 1995; March 21, 1995, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on State Affairs; 1-4 April 28, 1995, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 8, 1-5 Nays 0; April 28, 1995, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to exempting officers and employees of counties, 1-9 municipalities, school districts, and any other political 1-10 subdivision from interest payments described in Chapter 74, 1-11 Property Code. 1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-13 SECTION 1. Section 74.705, Property Code, is amended by 1-14 adding Subsection (f) to read as follows: 1-15 (f) A person is not liable for the payment of interest 1-16 described in Subsection (a) while the person is performing official 1-17 duties as an officer or employee of: 1-18 (1) county government; 1-19 (2) a municipality created under the laws of the State 1-20 of Texas; 1-21 (3) an independent school district created under the 1-22 laws of the State of Texas; or 1-23 (4) any other political subdivision created under the 1-24 laws of the State of Texas. 1-25 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995. 1-26 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-27 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-28 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-29 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-30 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-31 * * * * *
