                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to the compensation of the commissioner of education and
    1-2  the payment of certain expenses.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Chapter 1051, Article III, Acts of the 73rd
    1-5  Legislature, 1993, the General Appropriations Act, is amended by
    1-6  adding the following section under appropriations to the Central
    1-7  Education Agency:
    1-8        SALARY AND EXPENSES OF THE COMMISSIONER.  Notwithstanding
    1-9  provisions found elsewhere in this Act, the salary of the
   1-10  commissioner is set at the annual rate of $156,014.  It is further
   1-11  provided that the State Board of Education is authorized and may
   1-12  pay relocation expenses for a new commissioner to relocate in
   1-13  Austin, Texas, in an amount not to exceed $5,000.
   1-14        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-15  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-16  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-17  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-18  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-19  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-20  passage, and it is so enacted.
