    1-6                         A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-7                                AN ACT
    1-8  relating to the compensation of the commissioner of education and
    1-9  the payment of certain expenses; making an appropriation.
   1-10        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-11        SECTION 1.  Article III, Chapter 1051, Acts of the 73rd
   1-12  Legislature, 1993, the General Appropriations Act, is amended by
   1-13  adding the following item under appropriations to the Central
   1-14  Education Agency:
   1-15        SALARY AND EXPENSES OF THE COMMISSIONER.  Notwithstanding
   1-16  provisions found elsewhere in this Act, the salary of the
   1-17  Commissioner of Education is set at the annual rate of $156,014.
   1-18  It is further provided that the State Board of Education is
   1-19  authorized and may pay relocation expenses for a new commissioner
   1-20  to relocate in Austin, Texas, in an amount not to exceed $5,000.
   1-21        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-22  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-23  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-24  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-25  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-26  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-27  passage, and it is so enacted.
