                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                        AN ACT
    1-1  relating to legislative leave by peace officers and fire fighters.
    1-2        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-3        SECTION 1.  Subchapter 614, Government Code, is amended by
    1-4  adding new Section 614.011 to read as follows:
    1-5        614.011.  ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION PROHIBITED.  A peace
    1-6  officer or fire fighter may not receive compensation to appear
    1-7  before or petition a governmental body while on legislative leave
    1-8  under this subchapter in addition to compensation received from the
    1-9  employer of the peace officer or fire fighter.
   1-10        SECTION 2.  The effective date of this Act shall be
   1-11  September 1, 1995.
   1-12        SECTION 3.  EMERGENCY.  The importance of this legislation
   1-13  and the crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-14  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-15  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-16  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
