A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1-1 relating to proof of financial responsibility under certain
1-2 circumstances.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Chapter 88, General Laws, Acts of the 41st
1-5 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, 1929 (Article 6675a-1 et. seq.,
1-6 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended by amending Subsection
1-7 (a), and adding Subsection (i) to read as follows:
1-8 (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, the <The>
1-9 owner of a vehicle covered by Section 1A, Texas Motor Vehicle
1-10 Safety-Responsibility Act (Article 6701h, Vernon's Texas Civil
1-11 Statutes), other than a trailer or semitrailer, shall submit with
1-12 the application for registration under Section 3 of this Act
1-13 evidence of financial responsibility that is valid. A personal
1-14 automobile insurance policy used as evidence of financial
1-15 responsibility under this subsection must be written for a term of
1-16 30 days or more as required by Article 5.06, Insurance Code.
1-17 (i) The provisions of Subsection (a) of this section do not
1-18 apply to the registration of a motor vehicle when registration
1-19 occurs at the time of the transfer of title to the vehicle.
1-20 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-1 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-2 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-3 passage, and it is so enacted.
