No. 13 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The State of Texas enjoys a sister state 1-2 relationship with the Province of Taiwan, Republic of China; and 1-3 WHEREAS, The volume of commercial relations between Texas and 1-4 the Republic of China on Taiwan has grown enormously during 1993; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Republic of China on Taiwan is now the 13th 1-7 largest trading nation in the world, and it ranks seventh in 1-8 outbound investment, 20th in gross national product, and 25th in 1-9 per capita income; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The population of the Republic of China on Taiwan is 1-11 larger than that of two-thirds of the members of the United 1-12 Nations; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Republic of China on Taiwan has consistently 1-14 demonstrated her support for democracy and peace in the world, her 1-15 concern for regional and international development, and her 1-16 interest in overseas relief programs; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Seven Central American countries have proposed to 1-18 the United Nations to establish an ad hoc committee to study and 1-19 analyze the exceptional situation of the Republic of China on 1-20 Taiwan in the international community so as to find a fair and 1-21 feasible solution to the issue of her participation in the 1-22 framework of the United Nations; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED by the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas, That 2-1 the people of the Republic of China on Taiwan deserve appropriate 2-2 recognition and credit as dynamic participants in the international 2-3 community; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Republic of China on Taiwan should be 2-5 accorded full membership status in the United Nations and all the 2-6 affiliated organizations; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That the United States government give due 2-8 consideration to render her active support to an important trade 2-9 partner and former ally so as to expedite the full participation of 2-10 the Republic of China on Taiwan in the international community in 2-11 general and the United Nations in particular.
