                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Violence in our society is pervasive, so that almost
    1-2  every professional in a helping field comes in contact with someone
    1-3  who has been a victim of violence; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The dynamics of domestic violence are unique and are
    1-5  often misunderstood by professionals who have had no training on
    1-6  the topic, and such uninformed professionals may harm rather than
    1-7  help the victims they serve; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, There is a dearth of instruction provided in
    1-9  psychology and social work degree programs, and in universities in
   1-10  general, related to recognizing and addressing domestic violence
   1-11  issues; now, therefore, be it
   1-12        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-13  hereby request the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to
   1-14  conduct a review of all instruction provided by higher education
   1-15  institutions, universities, and schools receiving public money,
   1-16  including independent schools receiving tuition equalization
   1-17  grants, related to domestic violence; and, be it further
   1-18        RESOLVED, That by December 1, 1995, the Texas Higher
   1-19  Education Coordinating Board provide a report of its review to the
   1-20  74th Legislature; and, be it further
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-22  hereby encourage higher education institutions, universities, and
   1-23  schools receiving public money, including independent schools
    2-1  receiving tuition equalization grants, to offer instruction related
    2-2  to domestic violence and require students working toward degrees
    2-3  in, including, but not limited to, criminal justice, education,
    2-4  law, medicine, nursing, psychology, sociology, and social work to
    2-5  take such courses.
