                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Violence in our society is pervasive, so that almost
    1-2  every professional in a helping field comes in contact with someone
    1-3  who has been a victim of violence; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, There is a dearth of domestic violence training in
    1-5  psychology and social work degree programs and in academic
    1-6  universities in general; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The dynamics of domestic violence are unique and are
    1-8  often misunderstood by professionals who have had no training on
    1-9  the topic, and such uninformed professionals may harm rather than
   1-10  help the victims they serve; now, therefore, be it
   1-11        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-12  hereby request the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to
   1-13  conduct a review of courses related to violence in our society in
   1-14  all higher education institutions, universities, and schools
   1-15  receiving public money, including private schools receiving tuition
   1-16  equalization grants; and, be it further
   1-17        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-18  hereby request the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to
   1-19  mandate that higher education institutions, universities, and
   1-20  schools receiving public money, including private schools receiving
   1-21  tuition equalization grants, offer courses related to violence in
   1-22  our society and require students working towards degrees in certain
   1-23  programs to take such courses.
