SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, Since the birth of our nation, its survival has been
1-2 dependent in large measure on individuals accepting their
1-3 responsibility of citizenship through service and leadership in the
1-4 Armed Forces of the United States; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Erected on the Capitol grounds are memorials
1-6 honoring Texans who fought and died for their country in lands far
1-7 removed from their native soil in the Spanish-American War and
1-8 World Wars I and II; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Many Texans served their country with equal
1-10 distinction and valor in the Korean War, and these men and women
1-11 also deserve a lasting symbol of this state's esteem and
1-12 appreciation; now, therefore, be it
1-13 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
1-14 hereby authorize the State Preservation Board to erect on the
1-15 Capitol grounds, north of a line described by the east-west axis of
1-16 the Capitol, a memorial honoring Texans who fought and died in the
1-17 Korean War; and, be it further
1-18 RESOLVED, That the lieutenant governor and speaker of the
1-19 house hereby be requested to appoint a special committee to assist
1-20 the board with the planning, including review of memorial designs
1-21 and with solicitation of private funding, of the memorial; that the
1-22 committee shall be composed of two members of the Texas Senate and
1-23 two citizens appointed by the lieutenant governor and two members
2-1 of the Texas House of Representatives and two citizens appointed by
2-2 the speaker of the house; and that the appointments should be made
2-3 and an organizational meeting convened within 30 days after the
2-4 passage of this resolution; and, be it further
2-5 RESOLVED, That the State Preservation Board approve the
2-6 design and location of the memorial and oversee its installation,
2-7 and that the State Purchasing and General Services Commission
2-8 assist the board and special committee in the planning and
2-9 completion of this project.
