                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, W. M. Dewey and Son, Inc., is celebrating its 100th
    1-2  consecutive year of operation as an oil field transportation
    1-3  company in 1995; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, In 1895, W. M. Dewey began transporting oil field
    1-5  equipment in the Sour Lake area of Hardin County in East Texas;
    1-6  using horses and mules to move the heavy pipes and other machinery,
    1-7  Mr. Dewey and his wife often lived in tents by whatever oil field
    1-8  they were servicing; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, With the historic discovery at Spindletop in 1901
   1-10  ushering in an unprecedented era of exploration and drilling in
   1-11  Texas' oil and gas industry and with subsequent discoveries in the
   1-12  Humble oil field as well as oil fields in other states, Mr. Dewey
   1-13  found ample opportunity to expand the family enterprise; in 1928,
   1-14  he established a headquarters in Houston for this growing business
   1-15  and nine years later moved the company headquarters to its present
   1-16  location in that city; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Todd McDowell joined the company as a partner in
   1-18  1955, and he purchased the Dewey family interest in the business
   1-19  seven years later; under the able direction of Mr. McDowell and his
   1-20  sons, the company continued to flourish; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Currently boasting a fleet of 69 trucks and
   1-22  employing 100 dedicated workers, W. M. Dewey and Son, Inc., has
   1-23  maintained throughout its history an enviable safety record in this
   1-24  difficult and often dangerous business; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, W. M. Dewey and Son, Inc., consistently has striven
    2-2  to provide the highest level of service to its many customers, and
    2-3  the company's many significant contributions in the vital field of
    2-4  oil and gas transportation are indeed worthy of special legislative
    2-5  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-7  hereby congratulate the employees of W. M. Dewey and Son, Inc., on
    2-8  the 100th anniversary of their company's founding and extend to
    2-9  them best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it
   2-10  further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for W. M. Dewey and Son, Inc., as an expression of high
   2-13  regard by the Texas Senate and House of Representatives.
