S.C.R. No. 73
                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The City Council of Hawkins, the Chamber of Commerce
    1-2  of the Hawkins area, individuals, and the Lillian Richard family
    1-3  have labored together untiringly toward the end of promoting the
    1-4  Hawkins area to be known as The Pancake Capital of Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Lillian Richard, born in the year 1893 in the
    1-6  community of Fouke in the Hawkins area, worked for 37 years to
    1-7  promote the pancake industry for the Quaker Oats company; she is
    1-8  buried today in the Fouke Cemetery in the Hawkins area and is much
    1-9  loved and revered by the community; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the citizens of Hawkins as
   1-11  well as multimedia advertising and promotion, tourism will be
   1-12  encouraged from our state, neighboring states, and foreign
   1-13  countries into our community; visitors will have the opportunity to
   1-14  shop, dine, and partake of the many activities promoting the
   1-15  history associated with the career of Lillian Richard, who created
   1-16  such an endearing and enduring image; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, These visitors and travelers are exhibiting a direct
   1-18  and positive impact on the economic and cultural life of the
   1-19  community; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-21  hereby commend and applaud the citizens of the City of Hawkins and
   1-22  the surrounding area for their outstanding endeavor to bring
   1-23  recognition and prosperity to their lovely community; and, be it
    2-1  further
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature hereby designate the
    2-3  City of Hawkins as The Pancake Capital of Texas.
