                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas takes great
    1-2  pride in recognizing Dr. James M. Brunette for his selection as the
    1-3  1995 "I Love Paris" honoree; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Each year the Paris Education Foundation sponsors an
    1-5  endowment gala to provide a permanent scholarship fund in the name
    1-6  of an individual who has made substantial contributions to the
    1-7  community; Dr. Brunette is being honored for his lifetime of
    1-8  selfless service to citizens of the Paris area; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Dr. James Brunette began his successful career in
   1-10  Paris in 1948 when he joined the dental staff of Saint Joseph
   1-11  Hospital; he left in 1952 to serve in the United States Army Dental
   1-12  Corps and was the Division Dental Surgeon of the 2nd Infantry
   1-13  Division attached to the 23rd Medical Company in Korea; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He resumed dental practice in 1954 in Paris, and
   1-15  since 1961, he has worked exclusively in the field of orthodontics;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Devoted to the community and to his profession, Dr.
   1-18  Brunette has dedicated his life to providing superior dental care
   1-19  for area residents; for his outstanding work he was recognized in
   1-20  1974 as the Dentist of the Year by the Paris Dental Assistants
   1-21  Association; in 1991, he received the Life Membership Award from
   1-22  the Texas Dental Association; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, In addition to his professional service, Dr.
    2-1  Brunette has contributed greatly to his city and county as a civic
    2-2  leader; he directed the Greater Civic Center Development Committee
    2-3  in planning the Love Civic Center and currently serves as chairman
    2-4  of its governing board; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Dr. Brunette has been
    2-6  highly successful in the various positions he has held in city
    2-7  government; he served on the city council for 10 years and served
    2-8  two terms as mayor; he was vice-president of the ArkLaTexCouncil of
    2-9  Governments in the mid-60s and served on the board of directors of
   2-10  the Texas Municipal League; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, He has served as president of the chamber of
   2-12  commerce and was named Outstanding Small Business Person of the
   2-13  Year in 1993; he is a member of the Development Council of
   2-14  McCuistion Regional Medical Center and the Red River Valley Fair
   2-15  Association Board of Directors; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, A Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club, Dr.
   2-17  Brunette received the Lions International's highest honor, the
   2-18  Melvin Jones Fellow award, in 1994; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a friend to many, Dr.
   2-20  Brunette is beloved by the people of Paris; his concern for others
   2-21  is legendary, and he has played a major role in the betterment of
   2-22  the Paris community; and
   2-23        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman with an
   2-24  engaging personality, Dr. Brunette is a source of strength to the
   2-25  residents of Paris and Lamar County; his generosity and hard work
    3-1  reflect his remarkable dedication and his deep commitment to
    3-2  helping his fellowman; now, therefore, be it
    3-3        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    3-4  hereby commend Dr. James M. Brunette for his worthy accomplishments
    3-5  and extend congratulations to him on his selection as the "I Love
    3-6  Paris" honoree; and, be it further
    3-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him
    3-8  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature.
