No. 89 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed March 10, 1995; March 14, 1995, read 1-3 first time and referred to Committee on State Affairs; 1-4 April 11, 1995, reported favorably by the following vote: Yeas 10, 1-5 Nays 0; April 11, 1995, sent to printer.) 1-6 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-7 WHEREAS, Safe, well-maintained highways and roads are 1-8 fundamental to maintaining this state's competitive edge in an 1-9 increasingly fast-paced and global economy, and Texas citizens 1-10 currently enjoy, and have come to expect, one of the safest and 1-11 most modern transportation systems in the United States; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Recently, however, transportation experts have 1-13 warned that three suspension bridges in North Central Texas may 1-14 pose significant traffic and safety hazards to the public because 1-15 of structural deficiencies; and 1-16 WHEREAS, One of these structures, located on County Road 179 1-17 in Shackelford County, spans the Clear Fork of the Brazos River, 1-18 while another traverses the Colorado River along County Road 127 in 1-19 Mills County; a third overpass, crossing the San Saba River along 1-20 County Road 112 in San Saba County, also has been identified as a 1-21 possible threat to public safety; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In light of the danger that these bridges may pose 1-23 to lives and property, it is essential that immediate action be 1-24 taken to restore these suspension bridges to a safe condition; now, 1-25 therefore, be it 1-26 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-27 hereby direct the Texas Department of Transportation to repair and 1-28 maintain in a safe condition for highway traffic the suspension 1-29 bridges in Shackelford, Mills, and San Saba counties having the 1-30 identification numbers 08 209 AA01 79 001, 23 167 AA01 27 001, and 1-31 23 206 AA01 12 001; and, be it further 1-32 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official 1-33 copy of this resolution to the Texas Department of Transportation. 1-34 * * * * *
