By: Montford S.C.R. No. 126 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Military Forces Museum and Archives, 1-2 opened in November of 1992, has as its principal goal the 1-3 preservation of the history, traditions, and heritage of the 1-4 military forces of the State of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The museum was developed at Camp Mabry in Austin and 1-6 serves as a focal point for all Texans and visitors to our state to 1-7 see and experience the rich military history of Texas, from the 1-8 opening shot of the Texas Revolution to the present day, in terms 1-9 of the contributions made by the members of the Texas military 1-10 forces and their families; and 1-11 WHEREAS, These forces include all the citizen soldiers, 1-12 airmen, sailors, and marines who were members of the Texas Army, 1-13 Navy, and Militia; the volunteers who participated in the War with 1-14 Mexico, the War Between the States, and the Spanish-American War; 1-15 members of the Texas Volunteer Guard and National Guard who were 1-16 called to defend our nation during World War I and World War II, 1-17 the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict, and Desert Shield/Desert 1-18 Storm; the Texas Defense Guard; and the Texas State Guard; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The museum also preserves the history of those 1-20 Texans who served during the Cold War and those who were trained 1-21 and ready, but were never called to hostile action; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The museum's displays and archives reflect the 1-23 sacrifices and contributions of the relatives who waited for loved 2-1 ones to return, while doing their part on the home front; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The frequent and significant contributions of the 2-3 state military forces to Texas communities in times of natural 2-4 disasters also are presented effectively in the museum and 2-5 archives; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The displays, documents, artifacts, uniforms, 2-7 equipment, and personal effects of the men and women who served our 2-8 state and nation have been gathered from many sources; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-11 hereby call upon all Texans, wherever they may be, to support the 2-12 Texas Military Museum and Archives and its volunteers in preserving 2-13 the history of the Texas Military Forces for current and future 2-14 generations.
