                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Texas by virtue of its geographic expanse ranks
    1-2  first among the 50 states in combined road, highway, and street
    1-3  mileage; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, An important component of the state's transporation
    1-5  network is its system of county roads, funded by property taxes,
    1-6  motor vehicle registration fees, and gasoline taxes; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Construction and maintenance costs increasingly have
    1-8  placed a strain on such funding, suggesting a need for the
    1-9  legislature to revisit the issue of county road finance; now,
   1-10  therefore, be it
   1-11        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-12  hereby request the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house
   1-13  of representatives to create a joint interim committee to study
   1-14  county road financing problems; and, be it further
   1-15        RESOLVED, That the committee's proceedings and operations be
   1-16  governed by such general rules and policies for joint interim
   1-17  committees as the 74th Legislature may adopt.
