                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, There are more than 77,800 women veterans in the
    1-2  State of Texas representing 4.6 percent of the total veteran
    1-3  population; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The number of women serving in the United States
    1-5  Armed Forces and the number of women veterans continues to
    1-6  increase; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Women veterans have contributed greatly to the
    1-8  security of the United States through honorable military service,
    1-9  often involving great hardship and danger; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The special needs of women veterans, particularly in
   1-11  the area of health care, have often been overlooked or inadequately
   1-12  addressed by the federal government; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The lack of attention to the special needs of women
   1-14  veterans has discouraged or prevented many women veterans from
   1-15  taking full advantage of the benefits and services to which they
   1-16  are entitled; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Designating a week to recognize women veterans will
   1-18  help both to promote important gains made by women veterans and to
   1-19  focus attention on the special needs of women veterans; now,
   1-20  therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED by the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas, That
   1-22  the week beginning November 5, 1995, be and is hereby designated as
   1-23  "Texas Women Veterans Recognition Week," and that the Governor be
    2-1  requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of Texas
    2-2  to observe that week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
