                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Mr. Joe Koen was one of the first appointments made
    1-2  by the governor to the Texas School for the Deaf Board of Trustees;
    1-3  and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Mr. Koen was considered a benevolent and farsighted
    1-5  trustee who contributed to the education of deaf persons and the
    1-6  deaf community in the state; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, He became interested in the education of the deaf
    1-8  because of a deaf family member; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A boys' dormitory previously named in Mr. Koen's
   1-10  honor was torn down as part of campus renovations in the 1950s; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, It is fitting that a building on the campus of the
   1-12  Texas School for the Deaf continue to be named in his honor; now,
   1-13  therefore, be it
   1-14        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-15  hereby direct that the new boys' dormitory on the campus of the
   1-16  Texas School for the Deaf, located at 1102 South Congress Avenue,
   1-17  Austin, Texas, be named Koen Hall.
