                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-2  recognize the Special Olympics Summer Games which will be held in
    1-3  Austin in May; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The Special Olympics is a year-round athletic
    1-5  training and competition program for people with disabilities; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, In striving for excellence and achieving their
    1-7  maximum potential, the participants gain valuable experiences; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Participation in athletics provides an effective way
    1-9  for people with disabilities to develop self-discipline and
   1-10  dedication and to experience the thrill of achievement; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Approximately 4,000 athletes and coaches will
   1-12  participate in the 27th Annual Texas Special Olympics Summer Games
   1-13  in Austin from May 24 through May 26, 1995; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Athletes will come from all over to compete in nine
   1-15  different Olympic-style events including aquatics, basketball,
   1-16  cycling, equestrian events, golf, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, and
   1-17  track and field; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, More than 2,000 volunteers from  the Central Texas
   1-19  business community assist with conducting the games; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Financial support for the games has been provided by
   1-21  many Austin and Texas corporate sponsors; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The men and women who donate their time and energies
   1-23  to provide this important event and all those who contribute funds
    2-1  are certainly deserving of legislative recognition; now, therefore,
    2-2  be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-4  hereby designate the month of May as Texas Special Olympics Summer
    2-5  Games Month in Texas.
