                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-2  recognize Brenda Shelton Olds on the momentous occasion of her
    1-3  retirement after 27 years of meritorious service with the Texas
    1-4  Legislative Reference Library; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, She graduated from Lee High School of Baytown,
    1-6  Texas, and earned her bachelor's degree from The University of
    1-7  Texas at Austin; she worked briefly at the Texas State Library in
    1-8  1963 and 1964; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This industrious lady then served as a United States
   1-10  Army librarian from 1964 through 1966 in Germany and Italy; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Brenda returned to state employment when she went to
   1-12  work for the Texas Legislative Reference Library in May, 1968; that
   1-13  same year, she became the Texas State Documents Librarian; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, For 27 years Brenda Olds has willingly devoted her
   1-15  talent, knowledge, and expertise to the service of Texas; she
   1-16  developed the current and only state document classification
   1-17  system, and her outstanding work in this area resulted in the
   1-18  adoption of the classification system by the Texas State Library;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In response to her excellent service, she was made
   1-21  Technical Services Director in 1985; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A vital and active member of her community, Brenda
   1-23  Olds has always been prepared to help out with her time and
    2-1  attention; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Noted for her friendliness, honesty, and integrity,
    2-3  Brenda has earned the respect and friendship of her colleagues; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A person who enjoys the company of others, she is a
    2-5  member of the State Agency Libraries of Texas, the National
    2-6  Conference of State Legislatures, Legislative Research Librarians,
    2-7  Staff Section, and the Texas Libraries Association; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Characteristics of her tenure in her position have
    2-9  been responsiveness and commitment; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of Texas have greatly
   2-11  benefitted from the wisdom and expertise of Brenda Shelton Olds;
   2-12  her friends and colleagues genuinely wish her a happy retirement
   2-13  with many years in which to pursue her other interests with her
   2-14  husband, Gregory; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-16  hereby commend and applaud Brenda Shelton Olds for her 27 years of
   2-17  service and wish her many good years in the future; and, be it
   2-18  further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for her
   2-20  as an expression of the admiration and esteem of the Legislature.
