                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Though all Texans have been deeply affected by the
    1-2  devastating bombing of the A. P. Murrah Federal Building in
    1-3  Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, the students of Klein Forest High
    1-4  School in Houston have chosen to channel their sorrow in a positive
    1-5  way to help those whose lives have been forever altered by this
    1-6  terrible tragedy; and
    1-7         WHEREAS, To this end, these outstanding young people began
    1-8  making and selling ribbons to be worn as a tribute to those
    1-9  Americans who lost their lives or their loved ones in the disaster;
   1-10  four colors are being used in each ribbon--blue for the victims of
   1-11  the bombing, yellow for those still missing, purple for the slain
   1-12  children, and white for the loss of innocence that has occurred in
   1-13  the wake of this senseless crime; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Proceeds from the sale of the ribbons are being used
   1-15  to establish a scholarship fund for children who have been directly
   1-16  affected by the bombing, and the students have garnered such
   1-17  interest in their project that it is rapidly becoming a
   1-18  community-wide effort as a result of the tremendous dedication they
   1-19  have shown; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Since the idea first developed in Susan Nyman's
   1-21  advanced placement U.S. history class, these exceptional young men
   1-22  and women have worked tirelessly afternoons, weekends, and
   1-23  evenings, placing phone calls, producing ribbons, soliciting
   1-24  donations of materials, and initiating a letter-writing campaign to
    2-1  offer sympathy and solace to the schoolchildren of Oklahoma City;
    2-2  one month after the bombing, the students also are sponsoring a Day
    2-3  of Hope and Healing at their school on May 19, 1995, in an effort
    2-4  to raise needed funds and heighten public awareness of this worthy
    2-5  community project; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Though many say that with this horrific act of
    2-7  domestic terrorism America has lost its innocence, Texans from
    2-8  across the state cannot help but take comfort in the extraordinary
    2-9  efforts of these young people, for the future of this state and
   2-10  nation lies in their hands, and they have reacted to this tragedy
   2-11  with the utmost compassion, generosity, and commitment; now,
   2-12  therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-14  hereby commend the students of Klein Forest High School for their
   2-15  remarkable efforts in behalf of the victims and survivors of the
   2-16  Oklahoma City bombing; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That May 19, 1995, be recognized as a "Day of Hope
   2-18  and Healing in Texas" and that all Texans be encouraged to take a
   2-19  moment on this day to decide what they can do to assist the
   2-20  citizens of Oklahoma City and to help ensure a brighter, safer
   2-21  future for all the citizens of this land; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-23  prepared for prominent display at Klein Forest High School as an
   2-24  expression of highest regard by the Legislature of the State of
   2-25  Texas.
