                             SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow that the Texas Legislature
    1-2  noted the passing of an outstanding State Trooper, Timothy Wade
    1-3  McDermott, of the Highway Patrol Service, who died at the age of 42
    1-4  on May 14, 1995, in the line of duty; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The legislature wishes to join his family, friends,
    1-6  and fellow troopers in mourning the loss of this outstanding Texan
    1-7  who dedicated his life to the service of his community; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A man of ability and diligence, Trooper McDermott
    1-9  was born January 23, 1953, in Longview, Texas, and was graduated
   1-10  from Longview High School in May, 1971; he worked as a warehouse
   1-11  supervisor for Moore Brothers Lumber Company in Longview and
   1-12  received a bachelor of business administration degree from Stephen
   1-13  F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches in 1975; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He was appointed to the position of Trooper-Trainee
   1-15  on December 7, 1977, and upon completion of his course of
   1-16  instruction in the Recruit Training School, he was commissioned as
   1-17  a Trooper and assigned to Highway Patrol Service, Region 2,
   1-18  Deweyville; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, His hard work and ability were rewarded by
   1-20  commendations from Firearms Training Officer Reeves Jungkind for
   1-21  his work with recruits on weapons training, and he received a
   1-22  further commendation from the then Director, James B. Adams, when
   1-23  he represented the department in competition at the National Police
    2-1  Combat Pistol Match in Des Moines, Iowa; he further received three
    2-2  commendations for diligence in law enforcement; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, This highly respected patrolman was a devoted
    2-4  husband and father who was recognized as a well-rounded man with a
    2-5  bright future and was steadily promoted from the position of
    2-6  Trooper I to Trooper IV by 1990; on his own request, in 1979, he
    2-7  was transferred to Region I, Marshall, Texas, where he served with
    2-8  outstanding responsibility and integrity; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Trooper McDermott, in making the ultimate sacrifice,
   2-10  gave all that a man might give to his community, his state, and his
   2-11  country, and it is fitting that he be greatly honored; now,
   2-12  therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-14  hereby extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family:  his
   2-15  wife, Theresa McDermott; his daughter, Amanda McDermott; and his
   2-16  son, Adam McDermott; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for his
   2-18  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
   2-19  Legislature and that when the legislature adjourns this day, it do
   2-20  so in memory of Trooper Timothy Wade McDermott.
