                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment to allow the abolition of the
    1-2  office of county treasurer in Titus County.
    1-3        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 44, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
    1-5  amended by amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (c-1) to
    1-6  read as follows:
    1-7        (c)  The office of County Treasurer in the counties of
    1-8  Andrews, Titus, and Gregg is abolished.  In Andrews County, the
    1-9  powers, duties, and functions of the office are transferred to the
   1-10  County Auditor of the county or to the officer who succeeds to the
   1-11  auditor's functions.  In Gregg County, the functions of the office
   1-12  are transferred to an elected official or the County Auditor as
   1-13  designated by the Commissioners Court, and the Commissioners Court
   1-14  may from time to time change its designation as it considers
   1-15  appropriate.  In Titus County, the functions of the office are
   1-16  transferred to the County Clerk.
   1-17        (c-1)  The abolition of the office of County Treasurer in
   1-18  Titus County under Subsection (c) of this section takes effect
   1-19  January 1, 1996.  This subsection expires January 2, 1996.
   1-20        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-21  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 1995.
   1-22  The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
   1-23  proposition:  "The constitutional amendment providing for the
   1-24  abolition of the office of county treasurer in Titus County."
