1-6 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
1-7 proposing a constitutional amendment to allow the abolition of the
1-8 office of county treasurer in Titus County.
1-9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-10 SECTION 1. Section 44, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
1-11 amended by amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (c-1) to
1-12 read as follows:
1-13 (c) The office of County Treasurer in the counties of
1-14 Andrews, Titus, and Gregg is abolished. In Andrews County, the
1-15 powers, duties, and functions of the office are transferred to the
1-16 County Auditor of the county or to the officer who succeeds to the
1-17 auditor's functions. In Gregg County, the functions of the office
1-18 are transferred to an elected official or the County Auditor as
1-19 designated by the Commissioners Court, and the Commissioners Court
1-20 may from time to time change its designation as it considers
1-21 appropriate. In Titus County, the functions of the office are
1-22 transferred to the County Clerk.
1-23 (c-1) The abolition of the office of County Treasurer in
1-24 Titus County under Subsection (c) of this section takes effect
1-25 January 1, 1996. This subsection expires January 2, 1996.
1-26 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-27 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 1995.
1-28 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1-29 proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for the
1-30 abolition of the office of county treasurer in Titus County."
