                                SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature
    1-2  to exempt from ad valorem taxation certain property of certain
    1-3  organizations chartered by the Congress of the Republic of Texas.
    1-4        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Article VIII, Section 2, of the Texas
    1-6  Constitution is amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as
    1-7  follows:
    1-8        (d)  The legislature by general law may exempt from ad
    1-9  valorem taxation the property of an organization chartered by the
   1-10  Congress of the Republic of Texas that has been in continuous
   1-11  existence since the date it was chartered if the property is used
   1-12  primarily for the charitable, benevolent, or public service
   1-13  activities of the organization as defined by general law.  The
   1-14  legislature may provide for the administration of an exemption
   1-15  authorized by this subsection and may provide additional
   1-16  qualifications and limitations for an exemption authorized by this
   1-17  subsection.
   1-18        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-19  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 1995.
   1-20  The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
   1-21  proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to authorize the
   1-22  legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation property of an
   1-23  organization chartered by the Congress of the Republic of Texas
   1-24  that is used primarily for the charitable, benevolent, or public
    2-1  service activities of the organization."
