                                  A JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the garnishment of
    1-2  wages for the repayment of certain overpaid unemployment
    1-3  compensation benefits.
    1-4        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 28, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
    1-6  amended to read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 28.  No current wages for personal service shall ever be
    1-8  subject to garnishment, except for:
    1-9              (1)  the enforcement of court-ordered child support
   1-10  payments; or
   1-11              (2)  payments required under the laws of this state for
   1-12  the repayment of certain overpaid unemployment compensation
   1-13  benefits.
   1-14        SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
   1-15  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 1995.
   1-16  The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
   1-17  proposition:  "The constitutional amendment to allow the
   1-18  garnishment of wages for the repayment of certain overpaid
   1-19  unemployment compensation benefits."
