                                SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
    1-1  proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the enforcement of
    1-2  court-ordered obligations to pay restitution to victims of crime by
    1-3  garnishment of current wages for personal service.
    1-4        BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 28, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
    1-6  amended to read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 28.  No current wages for personal service shall ever be
    1-8  subject to garnishment, except for the enforcement of court-ordered
    1-9  child support payments and court-ordered restitution payments to
   1-10  victims of crime and court-ordered reimbursement of the
   1-11  compensation to victims of crime fund created pursuant to the Crime
   1-12  Victims' Compensation Act (Subchapter B, Chapter 56, Code of
   1-13  Criminal Procedure).
   1-14        SECTION 2.  The constitutional amendment proposed by Section
   1-15  1 of this joint resolution shall be submitted to the voters at an
   1-16  election to be held May 1, 1995.  The ballot shall be printed to
   1-17  permit voting for or against the proposition:  "The constitutional
   1-18  amendment allowing garnishment of current wages for personal
   1-19  service for the enforcement of court-ordered restitution payments
   1-20  to victims of crime and court-ordered reimbursement of the
   1-21  compensation to victims of crime fund created under the Crime
   1-22  Victims' Compensation Act."
