1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 In Memory
1-3 of
1-4 Frances Pope Vickers
1-5 WHEREAS, The citizens of Lubbock mourned the passing of one
1-6 of their most esteemed residents, Frances Pope Vickers, who died
1-7 December 26, 1994, at the age of 76; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Vickers was a dedicated wife, mother, and
1-9 friend who leaves behind lasting memories of love and compassion;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Frances was born on
1-12 October 23, 1918, and received a degree in journalism from
1-13 The University of Texas; she married John E. Vickers in Austin on
1-14 December 26, 1941, and the devoted couple was blessed with a long
1-15 and fruitful life together until his death on March 14, 1979; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Vickers moved with her family to Lubbock from
1-17 Dallas in 1945 where she became involved in a family-owned
1-18 construction business; and
1-19 WHEREAS, She shared her time and talents with her community
1-20 as a member of the Lubbock Junior League; and
1-21 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who lived her faith in her daily
1-22 life, Mrs. Vickers was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church;
1-23 and
2-1 WHEREAS, The beloved individual's warmth, helpfulness, and
2-2 generosity of spirit endeared her to all those who knew her and
2-3 valued her friendship; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-5 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
2-6 of Frances Pope Vickers: her sons, Alexander Pope Vickers and
2-7 John E. Vickers III; and her two grandchildren; and, be it
2-8 further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-10 the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-11 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-12 it do so in memory of Frances Pope Vickers.
