No. 15 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Ruth Strain 1-5 WHEREAS, The City of Lubbock mourned the passing of one of 1-6 its most beloved residents, Ruth Strain, who died December 31, 1994, 1-7 at the age of 76; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A resident of the city for 44 years, Mrs. Strain 1-9 was well known for her notable contributions to others through her 1-10 dedication to her church and her community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Ruth was born in Floyd County on December 3, 1918, 1-12 and moved to Lubbock from Big Spring in 1950; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, she married C. B. Strain 1-14 on September 15, 1945, and was committed to providing a loving home 1-15 for her family; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mrs. Strain was a piano teacher for over 35 years 1-17 and instilled in her pupils an appreciation for music; she will be 1-18 remembered with affection by the students who benefitted from her 1-19 instruction as well as her interest in their development; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Ruth Strain was an active member 1-21 of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more 1-22 than 35 years; and 1-23 WHEREAS, She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and 2-1 commitment that will live on in the memories of all those who knew 2-2 and loved her; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family 2-5 of Ruth Strain: her daughters, Ann Strain and Celia Strain Bangle; 2-6 her son, Bob Strain; her brother, Howell Merrick; and her sisters, 2-7 Ura Rithmayer, Imagene Grant, and Edna Teates; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-9 members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-10 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-11 in memory of Ruth Strain. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 President of the Senate 2-14 I hereby certify that the above 2-15 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-16 on January 16, 1995, by a rising vote. 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Secretary of the Senate 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate
