    1-3                                  of
    1-4                      Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
    1-6  in honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Born January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia,
    1-8  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., became one of the most influential
    1-9  men of 20th-century America; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A famed orator and clergyman and a 1964 Nobel Peace
   1-11  Prize winner, Dr. King inspired millions to join his struggle for
   1-12  equal rights through his passionate belief in nonviolence; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Outspoken yet eloquent, his unforgettable words
   1-14  roused a generation to strive for improved civil rights, equal
   1-15  educational opportunity, and economic well-being for all; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The stirring words of Dr. King's "I have a
   1-17  dream . . ." speech in 1963 still evoke emotions in Americans
   1-18  of every race and creed; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Dr. King was a greatly respected leader with a
   1-20  message of peace and love, and remembrance of him during this
   1-21  special month affords Texans an opportunity to reaffirm their
   1-22  commitment to equal justice and opportunity for all Americans;
   1-23  now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-2  74th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and work of
    2-3  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and that when the Senate adjourns
    2-4  this day, it do so in his memory.
