    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                     Jean Carol Salisbury Perkins
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Austin in mourning the loss of Jean Carol Salisbury Perkins who
    1-7  died December 24, 1994, at the age of 77; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born April 2, 1917, in Laredo, Texas, Carol Salisbury
    1-9  spent her first 15 years in Mexico and moved to Alpine in 1932; she
   1-10  graduated from Sul Ross State University and married the late
   1-11  William A. Perkins; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Mrs. Perkins was dedicated to her work as a
   1-13  schoolteacher and was well known for her creative approach to
   1-14  bilingual education and for her educational songs which were
   1-15  recorded by Caper Records; she taught school in a number of
   1-16  West Texas towns and began working for the Educational Service
   1-17  Center in Edinburg, Texas, in 1967; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, She moved to Austin in 1970 and continued her work
   1-19  with the Educational Service Center, educating teachers about the
   1-20  techniques she had invented for teaching foreign languages; she
   1-21  also worked with KLRN and the Carrascolendas program; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A woman of many talents, Carol Perkins was also a
   1-23  successful actress at Sul Ross State University and the director of
    2-1  several one-act plays; she directed The Barretts of Wimpole Street
    2-2  which won the State Meet for Best Play and Best Director; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Highly respected in the community for her many
    2-4  accomplishments, Carol Perkins was an exemplary and distinguished
    2-5  lady who was noted for her enthusiasm and her creativity; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity, she
    2-7  gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and
    2-8  valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Carol Perkins was a devoted wife, mother, and
   2-10  grandmother, who lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves
   2-11  behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
   2-12  many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-15  bereaved family of Jean Carol Salisbury Perkins:  her son and
   2-16  daughter-in-law, District Judge Bob Perkins and Cyndy Perkins;
   2-17  her daughter and son-in-law, Carolita and Lou Feiring; her
   2-18  sister, Nancy Sullivan; and her grandchildren, Javier, Allen,
   2-19  and Ana Perkins and Lauren Feiring; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-21  members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-22  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-23  in memory of Carol Perkins.
