No. 29 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the Chinese community of Texas on the grand occasion 1-4 of the Chinese New Year which occurs on January 31, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and some 1-6 Southeast Asian countries, the Chinese New Year is the most 1-7 important holiday season; and 1-8 WHEREAS, There are millions of Chinese Americans in the 1-9 United States who celebrate this annual event and who use the 1-10 celebration as an effort to share traditional Chinese culture 1-11 with all members of the community; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Celebrations often include a variety of entertainment, 1-13 feasts, and cultural activities such as the Lion Dance, Chinese folk 1-14 songs, and Chinese opera; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Participation in the Chinese New Year celebrations 1-16 by the Chinese Americans and their friends, neighbors, colleagues, 1-17 and business owners will help to unite individuals from diverse 1-18 cultures and strengthen community spirit; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-20 74th Legislature, hereby commend the Southern Chinese Newspapers 1-21 Group and all those who participate in the 1995 Chinese New Year 1-22 celebrations and extend best wishes to the Chinese community of 1-23 our state; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-2 the Southern Chinese Newspapers Group as an expression of regard 2-3 from the Texas Senate. 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the above 2-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-8 on January 16, 1995. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
