    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize the Church of God in Christ on the noteworthy occasion
    1-4  of its first Annual State Dinner on January 27, 1995, at the
    1-5  Double Tree Hotel in Houston; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Founded in 1906, the Church of God in Christ is
    1-7  the fastest growing Pentecostal movement in the world and has
    1-8  recently accepted the challenge of supporting the education of
    1-9  young people, especially those who attend Saints Academy, the
   1-10  church's school in Lexington, Mississippi; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The Annual State Dinner will bring together
   1-12  community leaders, religious leaders, and educational leaders in
   1-13  an effort to work together to support and encourage young people
   1-14  to strive for educational excellence; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Special guest speaker for the event is
   1-16  Bishop Louis Henry Ford, International Presiding Bishop of the
   1-17  Churches of God in Christ, and one of the first graduates of
   1-18  Saints Academy; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, An energetic and well-loved leader, Bishop Ford
   1-20  has worked tirelessly to establish many humanitarian programs in
   1-21  his city, Chicago; he reaches out to all ages and races in an
   1-22  effort to help the less fortunate turn their lives around; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Although Bishop Ford is in his 80s, he shares
    2-1  his vision for young people with others and travels extensively
    2-2  to raise finances to support Saints Academy; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Church of God in Christ is to be commended
    2-4  for its strong commitment to supporting educational excellence
    2-5  for the youth of our society; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the members of
    2-8  the Church of God in Christ for success in their new endeavor;
    2-9  and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  them as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
