    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize Dr. George K. Drake of Houston for his notable
    1-4  accomplishments in the field of addiction medicine; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Dr. Drake maintains a family practice and
    1-6  specializes in treating patients with chemical dependency in an
    1-7  effort to restore those caught in this debilitating disease to a
    1-8  healthy lifestyle; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The native Houstonian is a graduate of
   1-10  The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and is
   1-11  Medical Director of the Chemical Dependency Unit at Riverside
   1-12  General Hospital; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, One of nearly 2,000 physicians throughout the
   1-14  United States certified by the American Society of Addiction
   1-15  Medicine, Dr. Drake is chairman of the Advocacy Group for Indigent
   1-16  Addicts and is a knowledgeable expert in the field of chemical
   1-17  dependency; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, He recently chaired the workshop in Beaumont, Texas,
   1-19  designed to help all professionals and supervisory personnel in
   1-20  the field of addiction and criminal justice achieve an understanding
   1-21  of crack cocaine addiction and innovative treatment modalities; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The workshop was an attempt to bring together those
   1-23  in the medical community with probation officers, parole officers,
    2-1  and counselors to reverse cocaine addiction and rehabilitate those
    2-2  persons in the criminal justice system because of drug addiction;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, As a member of the Committee on Addiction Medicine
    2-5  in the Criminal Justice System of the American Society of Addiction
    2-6  Medicine, Dr. Drake is working on an upcoming workshop on criminal
    2-7  justice at the society's next national conference to be held in
    2-8  Chicago April 27 through April 30, 1995; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Dr. Drake is to be highly commended for his untiring
   2-10  efforts to eradicate the effects of drug addiction that have had
   2-11  such a devastating effect on our social structure; now, therefore,
   2-12  be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  74th Legislature, hereby express its deep appreciation to
   2-15  Dr. George K. Drake for his dedication to healing those who are
   2-16  dependent on addictive substances; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-18  as a token of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
