    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The  Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  welcoming the members of the Coalition of Hispanic American Police
    1-4  Associations to Austin for their first national conference which
    1-5  is being held January 20 and 21, 1995; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Coalition of Hispanic American Police
    1-7  Associations (CHAPA) is comprised of approximately 30 member groups
    1-8  involving 11 states and 16 cities; the goals of the organization
    1-9  include improving community relations between Hispanics and police
   1-10  agencies and making law enforcement a more viable career for
   1-11  Hispanics; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The members of CHAPA are exemplary individuals who
   1-13  provide excellent role models for the youth of today; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The CHAPA Board of Directors is representative of
   1-15  many nationalities within the Hispanic American community, and the
   1-16  composition of the board represents a geographical cross-section
   1-17  of the United States, making the coalition a powerful
   1-18  communication network; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The CHAPA is the result of years of hard work
   1-20  by Hispanic leaders to solidify the unity that has grown among
   1-21  Hispanics in law enforcement, and the organization provides a
   1-22  voice at the national level for Hispanic law enforcement officers
   1-23  and Hispanic communities; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The coalition's national conference is addressing
    2-2  significant topics such as strengthening police and neighborhood
    2-3  relationships, the importance of Hispanics in law enforcement, and
    2-4  the harmony between administration and associations; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, The citizens of Austin are honored to have the
    2-6  members of CHAPA as visitors in the Capital City, and the goals of
    2-7  this organization and its national conference will undoubtedly be
    2-8  of great benefit to Texans across the state; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  74th Legislature, hereby extend hospitality and a warm welcome to
   2-11  the Coalition of Hispanic American Police Associations and extend
   2-12  best wishes for a successful first national conference; and, be
   2-13  it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-15  coalition as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
