No. 65 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pleasure 1-3 in recognizing Robert Arnold of Lawn, Texas, on the grand occasion 1-4 of his 90th birthday, January 26, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The esteemed gentleman was honored by his community 1-6 with a special tribute sponsored by friends and family members at 1-7 the First Baptist Church during the monthly "Gospel Singing" on 1-8 January 23, 1995; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold is a well-known gospel singer and 1-10 songwriter who has spent his life composing, singing, and 1-11 publishing gospel music; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The son of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Arnold, Robert was 1-13 born in Glen Cove in 1905 and moved to Silver Valley with his 1-14 family when he was two years old; young Robert began his music 1-15 career at 18 and wrote his first song at 19; he has written the 1-16 words and music to 450 songs which have all been published; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold, who owns and operates a stock farm 1-18 in the Silver Valley area, also is the owner and manager of the 1-19 National Music Company in Coleman, Texas; he has traveled to 1-20 hundreds of schools throughout the country where he has taught 1-21 music to countless students; and 1-22 WHEREAS, He met his future wife, Cora McDonald, at a Texas 1-23 singing convention in 1926, and the devoted couple was married in 2-1 San Angelo in 1928; members of the Church of Christ, they traveled 2-2 extensively throughout their marriage singing and sharing the 2-3 Gospel with others; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Since the death of his wife in 1988, Robert has 2-5 lived alone and continued doing what he loves dearly; his latest 2-6 songbook, "Sweet Memories," is dedicated to the memory of his 2-7 beloved Cora; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Blessed with a multitude of talents, Robert has 2-9 tuned pianos for 66 years and has fond memories of the Depression 2-10 years when he was paid in goods rather than money; and 2-11 WHEREAS, He still resides in the 1886 farmhouse where he 2-12 continues to write songs, cook, look after his livestock, attend 2-13 church, teach music, tune and repair pianos, and sing the Gospel 2-14 songs he wrote; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Robert Arnold has touched many lives through his 2-16 contributions to the world of Gospel music; his songs will continue 2-17 to inspire all who hear their messages of faith and hope; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Robert Arnold as a treasured 2-21 citizen of his town and state, with best wishes for his continued 2-22 health and happiness; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-24 distinguished Texan as an expression of the appreciation and high 2-25 regard of the Texas Senate. 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 President of the Senate 3-3 I hereby certify that the above 3-4 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-5 on January 23, 1995. 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Secretary of the Senate 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Member, Texas Senate
