    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing the Chief Clerk of the General Land Office,
    1-4  Jack Giberson, who is retiring after 41 years of superlative public
    1-5  service; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A native Texan brought up on a ranch near
    1-7  Alice, Texas, he earned his bachelor's degree in economics from
    1-8  The University of Texas; he served in the United States Army Air
    1-9  Corps and was honorably discharged from the service as a first
   1-10  sergeant in 1946; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After Mr. Giberson returned from the war, he enrolled
   1-12  in The University of Texas School of Law, where he earned his degree
   1-13  in 1949; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman joined the General Land
   1-15  Office in 1953 as a closing attorney for the Veterans Land Board;
   1-16  since that time more than $2.25 billion has been loaned to more
   1-17  than 140,000 veterans; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Appointed Chief Clerk in 1960 by Commissioner
   1-19  Bill Allcorn, Jack Giberson has served under six different land
   1-20  commissioners and seven governors; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Mr. Giberson's duties as Chief Clerk have encompassed
   1-22  a wide variety of concerns including performing all the duties of
   1-23  the land commissioner in his absence; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of Mr. Giberson
    2-2  have contributed greatly to the growth and progress of the
    2-3  State of Texas; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A man of sterling leadership qualities, Mr. Giberson
    2-5  has actively carried out the goals of the six commissioners as an
    2-6  attorney, administrator, and negotiator; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Respected for his integrity and honesty, Mr. Giberson
    2-8  has set a high standard of professionalism, inspiring others by his
    2-9  loyalty, dependability, and exemplary conduct; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, The State of Texas and all of its citizens owe
   2-11  Jack Giberson an enormous debt of gratitude for his outstanding
   2-12  contributions on their behalf; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  74th Legislature, hereby commend Jack Giberson for his meritorious
   2-15  service to the State of Texas and extend to him best wishes for
   2-16  the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-18  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
