    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  congratulating Community Middle School of Nevada, Texas, for
    1-4  receiving a Significant Gain Award from the Texas Successful
    1-5  Schools Award System for 1993-1994; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, This is the second consecutive year for Community
    1-7  Middle School to receive a Texas Successful School Award for
    1-8  Significant Gain, and the honor includes a monetary award for
    1-9  the school of $3,923 for academic achievement; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The criteria for earning a Significant Gain Award
   1-11  are based on the percent of students passing each of the Texas
   1-12  Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) subject areas and performance
   1-13  gain from the spring of 1993 to the 1994 TAAS testing; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In order for a school to qualify for this award,
   1-15  at least 25 percent of all its students must pass each TAAS subject
   1-16  area, student performance must be in the top 10 percent of the
   1-17  school's demographic group on overall gain, and the average gain
   1-18  must be at least five percent across all TAAS subject areas; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, This honor demonstrates the talent, dedication, and
   1-20  hard work of the students and members of the faculty at Community
   1-21  Middle School; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The award also reflects the superior leadership of
   1-23  the school's principal and the united efforts of the administrators,
    2-1  teachers, and students to meet the challenge of performance
    2-2  improvement; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  74th Legislature, hereby commend Community Middle School for
    2-5  meeting the criteria established for a Texas Successful Schools
    2-6  Award System Significant Gain Award and for bringing honor to the
    2-7  school district and to the community; and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-9  Community Middle School as an expression of regard from the
   2-10  Texas Senate.
