    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Wanda Struve Gilvin
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
    1-6  citizens of Amarillo in mourning the loss of Wanda Struve Gilvin
    1-7  who died January 4, 1995, at the age of 91; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Plainview, Texas, Wanda Struve married
    1-9  L. P. "Pete" Gilvin in 1939, and the couple was blessed with
   1-10  a long and happy union; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Wanda Gilvin was dedicated to her work as a
   1-12  homemaker and as a public school music teacher until her
   1-13  retirement; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Highly respected in the community for her many
   1-15  accomplishments, Mrs. Gilvin was an exemplary and distinguished
   1-16  lady and a well-known civic leader; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, She was a board member for the Amarillo Symphony
   1-18  and was active with other cultural organizations including the
   1-19  Lone Star Ballet, the Amarillo Little Theatre, and the Amarillo
   1-20  Museum of Art; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gilvin were noted philanthropists
   1-22  who contributed to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, the Don and
   1-23  Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, the Panhandle-Plains Historical
    2-1  Museum, and the West Texas A&M University Foundation; they
    2-2  also contributed to the Presbyterian Children's Home and
    2-3  The University of Texas at Austin; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gilvin established and supported a
    2-5  scholarship program through a national contractors' association
    2-6  and supported the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation which
    2-7  produces "Texas"; they gave their extensive collection of Texana
    2-8  to the Carson County Square House Museum; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gilvin were honored by the Amarillo
   2-10  Chamber of Commerce for their support of the arts and were
   2-11  presented twice with the Golden Nail Award; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
   2-13  Wanda Gilvin gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her
   2-14  wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by
   2-15  those who knew her; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, Wanda Gilvin was a devoted wife and a talented
   2-17  individual who lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves
   2-18  behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family
   2-19  and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-21  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
   2-22  the bereaved family of Wanda Struve Gilvin:  her husband,
   2-23  L. P. "Pete" Gilvin; and her brother, Arno Struve; and, be
   2-24  it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    3-1  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
    3-2  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
    3-3  day, it do so in memory of Wanda Gilvin.
