No. 86 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio and the 1-3 office of Vice-President for Business Affairs will sorely miss the 1-4 wisdom and expertise of Kay Lynn Johnston who is retiring after 1-5 more than 15 years of outstanding service; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in 1937 to a respected Kingsville, Texas, 1-7 family, Kay Lynn Gregg was raised and educated in the Kingsville 1-8 public schools; she attended the Texas College of Arts and 1-9 Industry where she met and married Alan Johnston; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Raised with a sense of responsibility and civic 1-11 pride, Kay Lynn helped put her husband through college; she went to 1-12 work for three years as the secretary to the Dean of Women at what 1-13 is now Texas A&M University at Kingsville; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After her husband graduated and became an 1-15 officer in the United States Army, Kay Lynn supported him in his 1-16 career and accompanied him to his several posts of duty; and 1-17 WHEREAS, After their tour was completed, she and her 1-18 husband decided to live in San Antonio where he went to work for 1-19 Southwest Research Institute and continued his commission in the 1-20 United States Army Reserve; he recently retired with the rank of 1-21 Lieutenant Colonel; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Kay Lynn took a job for seven years as secretary 1-23 to the principal of a San Antonio public school; she left for a 2-1 position at Trinity University as Executive Assistant in the 2-2 president's office; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Always seeking new challenges, Mrs. Johnston 2-4 went to The University of Texas at San Antonio in 1977, as 2-5 Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students and quickly 2-6 became indispensable; and 2-7 WHEREAS, In September of 1985, Mrs. Johnston was chosen 2-8 as Executive Assistant to the Vice-President for Business 2-9 Affairs, E. J. Pederson; she was noted for her efficiency and 2-10 was often described as the secret to Mr. Pederson's success; and 2-11 WHEREAS, She continued as Executive Assistant to 2-12 Dan Williams, the current Vice-President for Business Affairs; 2-13 in the 10 years that Kay Lynn has been with that office, she 2-14 has marked it with her unique operational style and has created 2-15 an atmosphere of friendliness and helpfulness; with each task 2-16 she undertakes she accomplishes her goal with thorough attention 2-17 to detail and exactness; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Kay Lynn Johnston has left an indelible imprint 2-19 on The University of Texas at San Antonio, and now she may look 2-20 forward to having the time to fully enjoy traveling with her 2-21 husband and spending time with her grandchildren; now, therefore, 2-22 be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-24 74th Legislature, hereby commend Kay Lynn Johnston for her 2-25 superlative career of service; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-2 her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 3-3 ______________________________________ 3-4 President of the Senate 3-5 I hereby certify that the above 3-6 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-7 on January 25, 1995. 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Secretary of the Senate 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Member, Texas Senate
