No. 89 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize James Cook who was recently honored after he had 1-4 been instrumental in saving the lives of three little girls 1-5 and their grandmother during a fire; and 1-6 WHEREAS, James, an eighth grader at Wills Point Middle 1-7 School, was walking his dog at 5:30 a.m. near the trailer where 1-8 he lives with his grandmother when he noticed smoke and flames 1-9 coming from the trailer house across the street; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A quick-thinking young man, he ran to his trailer 1-11 house to have his grandmother call 911; he then ran to the burning 1-12 trailer and began beating on the door to awaken anyone inside; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The noise woke a woman sleeping inside who rescued 1-14 two of her granddaughters; a neighbor saved the third little girl 1-15 by helping her out through a window; and 1-16 WHEREAS, James, who modestly played down his role as a hero, 1-17 has clearly distinguished himself as a most alert and courageous 1-18 youth and is certainly deserving of legislative recognition; now, 1-19 therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 74th Legislature, hereby commend the quick and valiant actions 1-22 of James Cook in helping a family escape from a fire; and, be 1-23 it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-2 him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-3 ______________________________________ 2-4 President of the Senate 2-5 I hereby certify that the above 2-6 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-7 on January 25, 1995. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 Secretary of the Senate 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 Member, Texas Senate
