    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize the new pastor of Central Garden Missionary Baptist
    1-4  Church, Reverend Gregory L. Cheeks; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, An expert in Christian doctrine and ministries
    1-6  and an acknowledged biblical scholar, Reverend Cheeks will be a
    1-7  treasured asset to the Central Garden Missionary Baptist Church
    1-8  community; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born on July 28, 1956, Gregory Cheeks graduated
   1-10  from S. P. Waltrip High School in Houston in 1974; he sought further
   1-11  education at Houston Community College where he earned an associate
   1-12  degree in applied science majoring in radiography; he also attended
   1-13  Houston Baptist University; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He became a radiographer and is presently the
   1-15  Department Manager of Southwest Memorial Physicians Associates;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion,
   1-18  Reverend Cheeks has been actively involved with church matters
   1-19  since he was a young man; from 1975 through 1982, he was a member
   1-20  of the Young Deacons Board, the Central Garden Mass Choir, and
   1-21  the Alvin Dread Singers, Incorporated; he served as President and
   1-22  Director of the Faith, Hope, Charity Choir and the Voices of
   1-23  Deliverance Ensemble; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Music Coordinator of the Rightway District
    2-2  Association Choir, and an instructor in Sunday School and Baptist
    2-3  Training Union of Central Garden, he became Associate Minister of
    2-4  Central Garden Missionary Baptist Church; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, From 1983 through 1987 Reverend Cheeks filled
    2-6  the positions of Bible Study Teacher for the Young Deacons Class
    2-7  and Associate Minister of Mount Hebron Baptist Church; from 1988
    2-8  through 1990 he was Associate Minister of Lily Grove Baptist Church;
    2-9  and from 1991 through 1993 he was Interim Pastor of Central Garden
   2-10  Missionary Baptist Church; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, From November of 1993 until quite recently he was
   2-12  Interim Pastor at Central Garden Missionary Baptist before being
   2-13  named pastor; the congregation is glad to welcome him as the new
   2-14  pastor; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Reverend Gregory L. Cheeks
   2-17  for being the new pastor of Central Garden Missionary Baptist
   2-18  Church and commend him for his service to the church and his
   2-19  community; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-21  him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
